Displayed here are the City's ancient charters, the earliest being Queen Mary`s Charter of 1553 (shown above) followed by several others over the centuries, right up to Elizabeth II. The Guild Book of St Mary`s Guild of 1387 - 1680 is the oldest document exhibited. For preservation of these irreplaceable documents it is necessary for them to be "rested" from time to time and when this happens they are replaced with photographic facsimiles. A temporary exhibition about the Civil War in Lichfield is also being shown here at the moment.
